The Herbst Appliance or Cantilever Bite Jumper (CBJ)
One of the most common problems orthodontics treats is the discrepancy that occurs when the upper teeth protrude or “stick-out” past the lower. With these patients, we would like to encourage the lower jaw to catch up in growth, and braces like the CBJ or Herbst appliance help this happen.

Head Gear
Head gear is designed to influence the amount and direction of growth of the upper jaw. When upper jaw growth is modified, then the lower jaw has an opportunity to be in better alignment with the upper and thus improve the overall bite.

Lingual Arch
A lingual arch is used to almost magically reduce crowding without the need to extract teeth. It utilizes “Leeway space” or the fact that certain deciduous teeth are larger than permanent teeth to make the correction.

Rapid Maxillary Expander (RME)
The RME (Rapid Maxillary Expander) or RPE (Rapid Palatal Expander) is an expander that is used where the upper jaw is too narrow relative to the lower jaw. If an upper jaw expander is required, you will usually find that the relationship of the back teeth is reversed, with the upper teeth biting inside of the lower teeth.
